Choosing a Certified Physician in Des Moines
Why is it important to choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon?
More and more providers are trying to get involved in the specialty of plastic surgery as this industry continues to grow. As a patient, the topic of board certification can be challenging to sort through. If you have found a doctor who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, you can be assured that he/she has undergone the proper training in plastic surgery. As a board certified plastic surgeon, your doctor has passed the demanding plastic surgical examination process and continues to practice in a high level of ethical standards.
Dr. David Robbins, who is the owner and only plastic surgeon at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™, is exclusive because he has completed certification through all four Cosmetic Boards. Very few surgeons in the United States are certified by all four Boards. Dr. Robbins is the only quadruple board certified plastic surgeon in the state of Iowa.
Dr. Robbins maintains certification in the following Boards:
- The American Board of Plastic Surgery
- The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
- The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery
- The American Board of Cosmetic Laser Surgery
The American Board of Plastic Surgery
The gold standard board certification for practicing plastic surgeons is certification from The American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Robbins obtained his certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 2003 and became recertified in 2014, which is a requirement for maintenance of certification every ten years. Dr. Robbins is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which is the largest organization of Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in the United States.
The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The ABFPRS, which was established in 1986, is dedicated to improving the quality of facial plastic surgery available to the public. They do this by measuring the qualifications of candidate surgeons against certain rigorous standards, similar to the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Although Des Moines Plastic Surgery™ is not limited to facial plastics, Dr. Robbins elected to take this additional specialty board certification in reflection of his interest and volume of surgical cases involving facial plastic surgery. Since 2006, Dr. Robbins has been board certified by the ABFPRS. In 2015 Dr. Robbins completed recertification by successfully completing a rigorous written and oral examination as part of the Maintenance of Certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery
Dr. Robbins serves as a Diplomat of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Unlike any other board, the ABCS has become the premier board for examining an elite few of surgeons across the United States in ONLY cosmetic surgery. In order for Dr. Robbins to show his commitment to education, training, and exemplify and differentiate his plastic surgery business from any other practice in Iowa and the Midwest, he chose to become Board Certified by the ABCS. Dr. Robbins and Des Moines Plastic Surgery™ have and continue to set the standard for Board Certification and cosmetic surgery in Iowa.
The American Board of Cosmetic Laser Surgery
Dr. Robbins also serves as a Diplomat of the American Board of Cosmetic Laser Surgery. The ABLS is the only medical specialty board worldwide devoted to the use of lasers in surgery and medicine. At Des Moines Plastic Surgery™ and Coachlight Clinic & Spa here in Iowa, Dr. Robbins saw the need to become Board certified by the ABLS, and has been at the forefront of Cosmetic Laser Surgery.
In 1984, The American Board of Laser Surgery was founded by physicians and other medical practitioners from various fields experienced in the basic science and clinical applications of lasers. These professionals, share a concern for the safety and efficacious use of lasers in medicine and surgery. For those who use lasers in the health sciences industry, the founders of the ABLS believe the increasing complexity and utilization of lasers in treating patients has created a need for the establishment of minimum standards of knowledge, competence, and experience. Dr. Robbins at Des Moines Plastic Surgery and Coachlight Clinic & Spa recognized that lasers are sophisticated instruments requiring special knowledge and experience for safe, effective use in surgery and skin rejuvenation.
ABLS is the only organization who offers board credentialing in laser science, laser safety, and cosmetic procedures in medicine and surgery. Dr. Robbins is currently the only Board Certified Diplomat of the ABLS in the state of Iowa.
